Timegeist vs Hubstaff
“Time tracking software for hybrid modern global workforces” - hubstaff.com, July 2026
This is less a rivalry than a fork in the road. Hubstaff is built for employers who need verification of distributed work: optional screenshots (1–3 per 10 minutes, blurrable), keyboard/mouse activity rates (frequency sampling - by its own docs it does not log actual keystrokes), app/URL reporting, GPS for field teams, and payroll. That's a legitimate need, it just isn't ours. Timegeist is the worker's and freelancer's own record: nothing watches you, there is no employer view, and the output is a reviewed, billable day that becomes your invoice. If you're an agency owner choosing software for people who bill clients, the question is whether you need proof-of-work or proof-of-value.

FAQ
Timegeist vs Hubstaff, answered.
The questions people actually ask when weighing the two.
Does Hubstaff log keystrokes?
No, and we won't claim otherwise. Hubstaff's own documentation states it does not store individual keystrokes; it samples keyboard and mouse frequency to compute activity rates, and screenshots are configurable with blur options. It is verification software for employers. Timegeist simply has no monitoring surface at all.
Can Timegeist replace Hubstaff for my agency?
If you use Hubstaff to verify contractors with screenshots and activity scores, no; Timegeist deliberately doesn't do that. If what you actually need is accurate, reviewed billable time that becomes client invoices, that's exactly what Timegeist does, without monitoring anyone.
Is Hubstaff free for one person?
Hubstaff has no free plan and bills a 2-seat minimum, so a solo user pays for two seats (from ~$10/month annual on Starter). Timegeist is free for the complete solo workflow, with Pro at €9 per workspace when you need more.
